The mighty river rushes toward the waterfalls of almost a two hundred foot drop to the lower level. The turbulence and roaring water is a tourist attraction. A communications wire has been stretched across the gorge anchored by a 100 foot high steel tower on each side of the falls. As the crowd gathered, a man announced that he was going to walk across the wire and back. He asked of the crowd, how many believed that he could do it. Only two hands were raised and those tentatively. He climbed the tower and strode across the wire and back again amid the ooh and awe of the people. Our daredevil next said he would go across the wire backwards and blindfolded. “How many believe I can do it?” About ten raised their hands. When he had successfully completed the trip, he primed their new enthusiasm saying that he would now push a wheelbarrow over and back. “How many believe I can do that? With each trip, there were more believers. “Now”, he announced, “I am going to do my most significant feat. I am going to push that wheelbarrow over and back loaded with those big rocks! How many really believe that I can do that?” By now, the crowd was buzzing and shouting their enthusiasm. Practically every hand shot up. With a broad smile the man acknowledged their acclamations and encouragement. “Well, thank you for believing in me by what you have seen me do. I want to make one change in the load in the wheelbarrow. Instead of the rocks, which one of you will volunteer to let me take you over and back in the wheelbarrow? After the initial surprise at the request, the silence was deafening. The crowd began to slowly turn and walk away. They saw and believed with their own eyes, but were unwilling to make a personal commitment. The wind seemed to be picking up and sounded like it was saying, “Oh, ye of little faith!”
